ShibamShibam, Yemen is known as the Manhattan of the desert and is a protected Unesco World Heritage Site. It is a city of densely packed mud brick buildings ranging from four to eight stories. When we visited Yemen we drove across the desert to reach Shibam and it appears like a mirage out of the desert. This piece is shown in Mickey Lawler's book "Sky Quilts." I used her hand painted fabrics throughout to create this desert scene.
