Gafsa RugsThe southern Tunisian town of Gafsa has a tradition of weaving colorful and playful rugs and blankets. They are made up of traditional motives (geometric forms, simplified human or animal forms - especially camels) in rectangular sections. I purchased a small rug/wall hanging while I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the mid sixties. This piece is inspired by little Gafsa rug and the brilliant blue desert sky of southern Tunisia.
